All comforters at Down Bedding provide an exceptional down quality since this content is harvested from mature birds. This specific element is the most important one if the quality of the comforter is about to be analyzed. In fact, all comforters manufactured from European or Chinese duck down do not have this quality of down.

The Chinese comforter

The Chinese down used to blow up bad quality comforters is taken from inmature ducks. These Chinese ducks are bred with the only purpose of making of them a “Peking duck” dish. Chinese down is thus taken from young farm raised birds, which haven’t had enough time to produce a down of quality. In addition, the Chinese down fibers are less thick than those of American down (this reduces the quality of the comforters). A comforter made of Chinese duck down has low loft power. The loft power is the capacity of the down to get volume, i.e. to retain the air as well as to diffuse warmth. Thus the Chinese comforters are not of such a good quality.

The European comforter

The quality of the European down comforter is better than the Chinese down comforter. However, most of the comforters designed in Europe, particularly in France, are also made of down taken from young animals. In southern France, down used to manufacture comforters is taken from animals (geese and ducks) which are force-fed in order to produce “foie gras”. These birds live in farms where temperature never goes under 45 °F. Furthermore, these force-fed birds are far from being healthy. These breeding conditions prevent the down to develope all its thermoregulating properties. These properties will become the asset of American duvets.
